Macau Government Resumes Bid For Rail Rapid Transit With Target

The Transportation Infrastructure Office has renewed its bid for the construction of the Kotai Warning Railway Depot after suspending the existing contract due to a dispute with the original contractor.

According to a report by the Teleledifusao De Macao TV and radio broadcaster, the Macau government paid approximately $10.64 million to cancel a previous contract for an infrastructure project, and the renewal cost for the now-completed warehouse doubled to approximately $125.19 million.

This time, authorities say they plan to come up with a series of measures to oversee the project's progress, including construction goals and a punishment systems.

"The stages are different and there are punishment provisions," Ho Cheong-gi, a transportation infrastructure company, told the broadcaster. "The punishment provisions will vary depending on the severity and cause of the delay at that stage," he said. "If the delay is too serious, the contract will be canceled." The move could be coordinated between the two sides to increase the feasibility of the project than before

Ho declared that the warehouse is expected to operate in 2019, explaining the final decision on the Macau section route of cheerful traffic, the possibility of adjustments to the design of Barra station, and whether to proceed with the Taipa extension to the mainland.

The government is also considering the possibility of extending the light rail to nearby Hung Chin Island and is reportedly participating in negotiations with Guangdong officials over legal issues, including border crossing standards.
